28 Feet 8 Inches is a photographic project that documents my attempt to physically and conceptually track down a con artist named Adam who defrauded several investors and myself, while I was working as a housing contractor renovating foreclosed homes in St Paul, Minnesota in 2010. The project uses images, text, and email correspondence to document my attempt to track down Adam while traveling from St Paul, MN, to Huntington Beach, CA. I embodied the trope of the vigilante to explore the economic recession and the foreclosure crisis as I traveled to houses where Adam once lived and photographed actors as stand-ins near those locations. The project explores themes of theft, the retelling of an event, the malleability of identity, and the archetype of the American con artist.
