ADAM, explores my attempt to actually and conceptually track down a con artist, who defrauded me and several investors, while I was renovating foreclosed homes. Building on the tradition of the American photographic road trip, the piece documents my journey from St. Paul, MN to Huntington Beach, CA, where the the man who defrauded me, Adam Burroughs, was last seen. I embodied the trope of the vigilante to explore the economic recession and the foreclosure crisis as I traveled to houses where Adam once lived and photographed actors as stand-ins near those locations. The project explores themes of theft, the retelling of an event, the malleability of identity and the archetype of the American con artist.
